About Us - Who are we at CaptainPicard.com?
We are a unique Hawaiian company whose primary focus is on quality Hawaiian products. Our products are sourced primarily from small local businesses and individuals. All of our products are available for purchase on-line and we do not have a physical walk-in storefront. (Therefore, we are able to pass on substantial savings to our customers due to low overhead!)
Our devotion to promoting Hawaiian products has earned us the reputation of making available unique Made In Hawai`i products on the World Wide Our Made In Hawai`i products are not massed produced or imported ready-made from China or places outside of Hawi`i. Our products are handcrafted by small independent crafts persons, artists, woodturners, and seniors, who devote many hours of labor and love to their finished product. This not only insures authenticity and quality, but also enables us to promote the Hawaiian culture through its arts and crafts forms. Our products are sold exclusively by us throughout North America, Guam, and Hawai`i. We assure you a lot of love, dedication, and pride have been put forth in producing them.
We are also an Authorized Retailer for Touch Of An Angel products (the only "non-Hawaiian" product made in the US.A. that we sell).
Our Early Beginnings
In 1997 Hale Akamai Consulting of San Francisco (HAC/SF) was established by Big Islander, Likeke "Ric" Bumanglag, who opened its doors in San Francisco to help support the growing Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities in California, Nevada, and Pacific Northwest. In 1998, this led to the formation of two Northern California Hawaiian internet entities: Hale Akamai Consulting of San Francisco and its small business web site design services, Smartdotcom.com of Hawai`i. From there, HAC/Smartdotcom began the development of the Big Island public benefit web site, IAKAMAI.COM, devoted to promoting Hawai`i and Pacific Islander Community cultural activities.
In 2003 we launched Hale Akamai at CaptainPicard.com (the site you are currently on), a web site promoting affordable Hawaiian products to Mainland visitors and Pacific Islanders living abroad.
In the Spring of 2007 we opened a new main sales office in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawai`i to be close to most of our product sources.
Today, more than ever, we continue to thrive by continuing our focus on unique local Hawaiian products offered at CAPTAINPICARD.COM, as well as offering affordable web design services for small Hawaiian businesses and professional individuals via SMARTDOTCOM.COM of Hawai`i.
How can we sell these quality products at such affordable prices?
By selling our products only via our on-line store we reduce overhead expenses and pass on the savings to you. Other suppliers sell through multi-level marketing methods that require expensive advertising, high infrastructure, and sales personnel. We are an ohana business (family-owned) staffed by hardworking family members and friends who like what they do. We have no call centers or off-shore customer service! What we do offer is good, quality products at reasonable prices (under $50 in many cases). We are honest and helpful. That's it. No tricks; no gimmicks! And you don't have to "open an account" to order from us with a credit card!
Business Hours
We are available "7 days a week" on an Aloha Schedule (if we are unable to take your call, you are automatically directed to our 24 hr. Aloha Message Center where an Aloha Care Representative will respond.). Each year we close down for a short period of time so our staff can spend quality time with family, relax or travel abroad, or conduct our annual internal audit. During that time we also search for new, affordable, Hawaiian products that seldom make it to the Mainland market.
How to make your products available through our web site?
We are selective in the products we represent or make available on our web sites. If you would like us to consider your products, please feel free to email us. We are primarily interested in products made in Hawai`i (especially on the Big Island of Hawai`i) by independent local arts and crafts folks, Hawaiian small or family-owned businesses, or individuals whose products are considered "Hawaiian" or "Hawaii-related."
